About

I'm Emily, a twenty-two year old Michigan native, Virginia college graduate who recently moved to Australia. I'm a reader, a writer, and a lover of faraway places. This blog is an effort to read more than one page--to write more than one page--and to experience more than one page of the world's own book, all while recording my thoughts and experiences.

What you'll find here:

Book Reviews:
Largely young adult and mostly fantasy with a bit of historical fiction thrown in. My favorite books tend to be historical fantasy rather than urban, and books with strong character development. Reviews won't always be formatted, though some will--I've been down that road before and found it too tedious to maintain, and I'm hoping that stream-of-consciousness reviews prove less cumbersome.

If you have any book recommendations, or if you'd like to see a review of a particular book, please feel free to contact me and I'll strive to meet requests in time.

Writing Musings:
I have one "finished" (are they ever really finished?) novel I've been striving to get published. I'm an avid participant in National Novel Writing Month. I've submitted to the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award, though I haven't made it past the quarterfinals. I like trying out writing software and reading writing blogs and participating in writing contests and finding agents. While I can't say that I'll post anything I write here--that's something I usually keep private--I can say that I'll post a lot of writing-related things, from helpful links to rants to progress updates.

Worldly Adventures:
Reviews of hostels, hotels, restaurants, sites, and places--or just entries about what I did that day. While many of these will be reviews of places in Australia, we are heading to New Zealand soon for a few days, and we're also planning a month-long trip to Europe for (hopefully!) the end of 2013. There will be updates on planning, places we want to go, etc.
